(Top left and bottom right) The photo corner craft Punch by Martha Stewart. This amazing tool lets you make photo corners using absolutely any paper. Just think about the possibilities!!!

(Top right and bottom left) I also snapped up the Curvery Cutter by CuttleBug. Which cuts perfect circles from 2.25" - 7.5" with amazing precision. I'm planning on using it for decorations and for making beautiful circular menus for my clients.

We are back from Indie Wed and have to report how amazing the show was. All the vendors were utterly fantastic and I got to meet so many new faces.

Brides, grooms, moms and bloggers were out in full-force and we had a very full both most of the day. It was great hearing people's stories and talking about to many potential ideas - I'm still trying to take it all in.

John and I posing with Smitten Sticks created by photographer Edyta Syzszlo and Le Papier Studio

Here's the design plan we came up with for the booth and table, which looking back now was a great way to make sure things went according to plan. With nearly 1,000 people in attendance, we wanted to really make a signature impact!

For the show, we created a fictional couple, Natalie and Nicolas and designed the environment inspired by those amazing painted juice glasses from my inspiration board.

Since we were really trying to focus on creating an intimate environment, the right wall was kept fairly empty - aside from showcasing the chalk drawn living room scene. We created a custom monogram for our couple - as the first piece of the identity for the event and it was placed front and center of the right wall, surrounded by photos of the bride and groom's families.

The table was set with a slightly shimmer ivory linen topped with a gorgeous red and gold paper and gold scarf. Since my color palette was mainly oranges and reds, I wanted the impact of a soft aqua for contrast - which was used for the napkins at each setting.

Gold rimmed wine goblets, feminine ivory colored plates and vintage silverware were the basics for the settings - to incorporate ambiance and color, we added in votive candles and berry flavored lemonade in pretty glass bottles.

Almost all of the items were locally purchased - in Chicago (and we spent two days pre-show running errands all over town). My best choice was working with a local florist - Beth Barnett of Larkspur who is a sheer genius. I sent along some inspiration images and we discussed the arrangements a few times over the telephone. She 100% captured the very natural and textural feel I was after. In total, we did two medium sized arrangements on the rectangular table and one bud vase for the small round table that held our portfolio book.

Tip: One thing you should totally consider when working with any florist is to talk about providing your own containers. It's a great way to impart your personality - and perhaps might even save you some money. Think about items you use everyday - water glasses, tins, milk bottles, old teacups, etc.

On the left-hand wall, we strung red and white cupcakes liners into decorative garlands (based on Jillian's tutorial) and showcased our custom printed goods with a blue glittery sign. All the stationery was attached to horizontally placed ribbons with miniature clothesline clips, which allowed us to take things off and show brides more detail.

On the tables, we continued Natalie and Nicolas' story by creating a few key pieces: there was an invitation featuring their custom monogram - along with kraft paper envelope (a perfect compliment to the walls!) Each plate had a circular menu - featuring a slight modification of the monogram and an illustration of their multi-flavor wedding cake.

Favors were sea salt chocolate covered caramels. They were placed on top of mini candy wrappers, in a pattern that perfectly mimicked the cupcakes garland. We placed three in each clear box, which we lined in gold paper. The boxes were taped closed with a aqua and white striped ribbon and were labeled at the top with guests name and table number - in essence serving double duty as favors and place cards! The entire table was completed with table number signs based on the previously mentioned monogram.

I just wanted to take a second and thank my wonderful husband who was not only my driver and weekend traveling companion, but he also helped me install and man the booth the entire day. I was super exhausted after nearly 10 hours on my feet - but without his help it would not have happened as seamless as it did. Special thanks to my friends Christina and Matt who not only let us take over their house for an entire weekend, but provided endless amazing food, conversation and help when we most desperately needed it.

And thanks to each of you brides and grooms who we met. We're still answering emails and very exciting at working with some of you to help showcase your own beautiful wedding. Chicago is a really wonderful town and we feel so fortunate that it greeted us with open hearts and arms!

Eeek!! I'm so excited to be writing for them and hope you enjoy my first posted tutorial, DIY Leaf Favors & Escort Cards!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A fun way to add some pops of color to the wedding without spending a fortune is making use of seasonal fruits. Lemons, limes, pears, oranges and peaches can be used to lend some decorative accents in two interesting methods.

First, as favors, they can be left a top a menu card or napkin at each place setting Using a mixture of two tags is a fun way to add some dimension and get all of your messaging into one place. The large leaf should incorporate the bride and groom's name and the small one is perfect for featuring your wedding date.

Secondly, as escort cards, fruit can be artfully arranged on a table and placed in alphabetical order. This is perfect for last-minute shifting of guest. In the weeks leading up to the big day, spend time labeling each leaf with guest names and table numbers. Wait until your seating chart is finalized to match the correct table to each guest.

Try using fruits that not only work with your color palette, but have a special meaning to your location; Apples in Washington, Peaches in Georgia, Oranges in Florida...

For a fun DIY-twist, this project incorporates a coordinating set of scrapbook papers, which have been mixed and matched in a green-blue color palette.

Supplies:

DIY Leaf Template (you must have Adobe Reader installed to open this)

Assorted scrapbook paper

X-acto knife or scissors

Pearl head pins: these come in lots of wonderful colors and are available at most fabric stores

Depending on what paper you use, 12 sets will cost about $0.55 - $1.00 each,
plus the cost of the fruit

Directions:

Cut scrapbook paper to fit inside a standard home printer: 8.5" x 11"

Download the DIY Leaf Template

Print the template onto your cut scrapbook paper

Cut out each leaf shape

Mix and match patterns for an interesting look

Attach leaves (small on top of large) using head pins

Tips:

Take these seemless tanks I've been collecting for the past few years from Anthropologie. Any day of the week, these key pieces are always the glue that bind my outfits together.

What I love most is that they are DTM; Dyed to Match, meaning that the yarn is dyed specificially to a choosen palette of colors by the Anthro design team. To you and me, this just means that a tank you purchase at their store will more than likely match the other items sold in store.

I love these tanks so much that I've dedicated an entire drawer in my dresser to them, which are arranged by color, like so:

For all you Antho lovers out there - I also wanted to share a great blog I've been reading called Effortless Anthropologie. Roxy eats, sleeps and blogs all day about Anthro and features a ton of great clothing reviews, which I've been obsessed with reading. I love seeing all the different ways people mix and match their clothes - plus knowing how a particular garment might fit before wasting lots of time standing in those long dressing room lines is a key to getting me in the store and buying items that I know will fit my body and look super cute.

Anyhow, Happy Friday to you all and hope you're off to a fun filled and exciting weekend!!

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.inspiredgoodness.com/blog/2010/1/21/sneak-peek-diy-leaf-tags.html"><rss:title>Sneak Peek: DIY Leaf Tags</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.inspiredgoodness.com/blog/2010/1/21/sneak-peek-diy-leaf-tags.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>DIY DIY project Favors</dc:subject>

Super busy today finishing up a few projects and tying up a few loose ends but figured to share a tiny peek a a fun DIY project in progress.
I've spent a lot of time working on ways to really bring another level of dimension to the booth, and found a great (and inexpensive) solution with the help of kraft paper, pencils and white chalk...

I nabbed an overhead projector on Etsy, designed the layouts on my computer and had the designs made into transparencies at a local copy shop. The walls in the booth are each 8' x 8', which is quite a large space to cover. By using kraft paper, the look compliments my design plan and remained a very inexpensive solution of how to transform the space without breaking my budget.

One of the walls will feature the IG logo and the other shows a scene from a glamorous interior.

The apartment looked amazing - we filled dozens of mason jars with votive candles which showed off all the details in a lovely glow. The place was filled with about 40 guests (neighbors, friends and family) and although it was a little tight, everyone had a really festive attitude.

We modeled the invitation off of a print we have framed in our apartment done by an architect. It showcases some signature cocktails from the 1980s. It's a big conversation piece whenever we have guests over and a fitting way to showcase John's famous Holiday Leftover Trifle.

A few images of our apartment pre-guests (the awesome 80s cocktail print is shown in the bottom left). Some weeks back we painted the inside of our front door with chalkboard paint which became quite a lifesaver when keeping our to do list organized for the party. We left it up all night as a fun piece of artwork.

Taking inspiration from the invitation, we made tiny flags to label the cheese plate and various goodies on display. I loved the vintage plastic Santa and reindeer used to decorate this year's Buche de Noel.

And of course the party would not have been complete without our Bad Gift Exchange. There was a lot of stealing going on - and many of the gifts were big "As Seen on TV" hits.

Hoped you enjoyed this little peek into our party - it was a lot of fun thanks to having wonderful friends and neighbors around to share in the celebration. I have no clue how on Earth we're gonna top this one, but at least we have another 365 days to plan next year's soiree...

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.inspiredgoodness.com/blog/2010/1/8/day-of-rest.html"><rss:title>day of "rest"</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.inspiredgoodness.com/blog/2010/1/8/day-of-rest.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject>Behind the Scenes at IG Entertaining Food + Drinks holiday hangovers</dc:subject>

I'm taking today off and in will be channeling my inner Julia since we have 30+ people expected for Saturday night and there's a lot to do!

Not sure if you remember, but every year, John and I go all-out with an annual holiday get together. Since it seems that everyone is busy during the actual month of December, we figured a few years back to move the celebration to January and so, Holiday Hangovers and Leftovers was born.

In 2007, 2008 and 2009 we were still in our first Brooklyn apartment. The first year the highlight of the party included the chalkboard covered walls in our dining room. A large portion of our friends being artists, everyone made some contributions to the decor, unfortunately, most of it was removed quickly due to the addition of alcohol.

Second year we got much smarter and decided that if we were hell-bent on serving ham, it was in our best interest to get a spiral cut. It seems everyone loves to eat the stuff but when the slicing is DIY, nobody is interested.

Third (and last year) was insane. We were way beyond maximum capacity with our guest list. The bad-gift-swap was hysterical and included Snuggie stealing, an extremely interesting nightlight and a funny holiday slideshow.

So now that we're 'all grown up' and living in our 'big kids' apartment, things are going to be a little bit different. We'll still have all the favorites and maybe a few new surprises...

Anyhow, I hope you are all laughing away courtesy of this silly photo as I get to work cleaning, cooking and getting it done.
