DIY Tutorial: Personalize your Wedding Shoes

Shoe

I have to admit, that while this wasn't an original idea of mine, I loved the idea of adding this simple and personalized embellishment to my wedding shoes. If you're not able to spend the $75 Stuart Weitzman charges for this same service, you can easily tackle this project yourself.

That said, I've put together this little step-by-step tutorial  to help you recreate this same look.

Necessary tools and materials:

  • Glue (Scotch Quick Dry Tacky Adhesive recommended)
  • Tweezers
  • Clear packing tape
  • Swarovski flatback crystals: we found the 1.7-1.9mm size worked best. (color shown is aquamarine)

Step 1: Download our DIY template. Enlarge or reduce on a photocopier to fit your wedding shoes. If you plan on placing your initials inside the heart, size the heart first to the max width of the area on your shoes that you plan to glue onto. For best results, leave about 1/8" around the sides of design.

Step 2: Begin laying out crystals on top of your sized template. Use
tweezers to assist in positioning.

Step 3: Finalize crystal layout on top of photocopied template

Step 4: Place a piece of clear packing tape over crystals. Press gently to ensure all rhinestones are affixed to the tape

Step 5: Flip tape with affixed crystals over on reverse size

Step 6: Place dabs of glue to the back of every crystal. For best results, use a small amount of glue.

Step 7: Flip tape with backside glued crystals over - and place on desired area of shoe bottom. Gently press down and leave tape for at least one hours. When you remove the tape, use tweezers to fix the position of the crystals if they have moved from the original layout.

Step 8: Wear and enjoy!
